About Prayer Boxes
The Prayer Box
Though the origins of the Prayer Box are often argued, many faiths now use the prayer box for religious use. However in today’s society, Prayer Box has taken more of a sentimental value / jewelry item rather then its religious past. Prayer Boxes come in many different styles, shapes, materials, but one thing all prayer boxes share in common is there use. They are all used normally to hold a special message of prayer, a message from a significant other, or just a saying important to the individual.
Materials
For many prayer boxes, producers of the item can use many different materials. But the materials most commonly found and used are; sterling silver, plated silver, gold vermeil, brass and pewter. The most commonly used of all is sterling silver. This occurrence is simple, most prayer boxes, to the individual may be a sacred or very important item to them. As such, would be made of a precious metal. Gold is far more expensive then sterling silver which makes it more readily available for the consumer.
Applications and Uses
Prayer boxes in general are categorized as having three main uses; Religious, Inspirational and Sentimental. In religious use, the common practice would be to place a prayer or wish into the prayer box. For many it is said that by doing so, your prayer or wish would come true. For Inspiration, a friend may offer this as inspiration after a trying time, perhaps a break up, or a loss of a loved one, or for many, just use it as a piece of jewelry. For a sentimental use, the prayer box may have been given by a wife or husband with a special note tucked into the box. Or best friends moving away tucking away phone numbers or special memories into it. This is by no means the only way to use these prayer boxes, but rather an example of the many uses prayer boxes offer.
Varying Styles of Prayer Boxes

All About Enamel
What is Enamel?
Enamel is the process of using a powdered glass and running it through a fire treatment that usually runs at temperatures of 750 to 800 degrees Celsius. During this time the powdered glass melts into a liquid and covers the area, allowing a hardened, smooth, durable coating on metals, ceramics and glass. The term Enamel is also used to describe small trinket like items covered in an enamel coating. Beauty aside, enamel also offers a durable protection against chemicals, and provides a long lasting shine and full color. We offer a full selection of Enamel Charms ranging from sports to travel and a lot more.

Here at silvercharms inc. We offer crystal enamel and crystal charms which are not your ordinary charms. It offers the durability and color of enamel with added crystals to enhance the beauty of the charm. Some examples of our crystal enamel charms are; Crystal Penguin , Heart Sunglasses, and the Happy Horse. Here are some crystal charm examples; Golf , Bridesmaid.
Cubic Zirconia
While CZ or Cubic Zirconia is best known as an diamond simulant. CZ offers alot of the same properties as diamonds. Its not nearly as hard as diamonds, ranking in at 8.5 on the mohs scale, but, it is harder then most gemstones. CZ also has the ability to be made into different colors and most importantly much cheaper then the rarer Diamond. This inexpensive CZ offers a high quality gemstone. Some of our charms include different sizes and colors of CZ such as; Cosmopolitan , Wine Glass , Coffee Cup , and many more.
Marcasite / Pyrite
Seemingly, Marcasite and Pyrite are the same in chemistry. However in crystal structure and other differences, Pyrite and Marcasite are different. In jewelry the term is commonly used and the gemstone used is referred to as Marcasite, in most cases however the Marcasite is actually Pyrite. No one knows exactly when this happened, but even to experienced mineral collectors the difference can be hard to tell. Marcasite is not used due to its brittle nature, and on random can decay and create sulfuric acid. We offer Marcasite (Pyrite) charms in different styles; Cherries , Apples , Turtles , just to name a few.
Murano Glass Beads
The glass beads of Murano are skillfully made, colorful, and elegant. Originally in Venice, were moved to the islands of Murano due to increasing fear of fire breaking out in Venice. Here is an example of Murano work. Today, this art of glass making can also incorporate other kinds of methods such as gold engraving, lattimo, ribbed glass, submersion just to name some of the many.
Stones and Gemstones
A gemstone is normally considered any mineral, rock or petrified material that can be cut and polished and used in jewelry. Though there are some which do not fall into the category, and are most often displayed in museums and sought out by collectors. Alot of our charms also make good use of other gemstones and other precious stones, to name a few; Tigers Eye, Turquoise, and other elaborate stones. All of our gemstones are also available per strand.

A brief and far from complete history of charms.
Â
Charms span far and wide and may vary as to what exactly a “charm” is around the world. From good luck charms, to charms and amulets from shrines, and other countries, they may look different, used differently, but one common piece of information between all the differences, is, they are used as something important to the holder. This to many may give a charm a heavy meaning. As one would say, “In the eye of the beholder.”
Man Roamed the Earth
During the Neolithic Era, as man roamed the earth in search of its new surroundings, the earliest form of charms could be considered to be found during this time period. As man would find obscure objects that would look different, look shiny, or interesting. These early men would use these as a hope to ward off enemies. As time passed many elaborate charms with precious stones and metals began to appear. Which were primarily seen during the reign of the pharos of Egypt . The Egyptians used these charms as ID tags so the gods could identify them and as a means to show their status in society
Do as the Romans do...(not?)
During the times of the Roman Empire , many Christians would employ a fish like charm, referred to as an “Ichthys”. They would hide this charm where they could, and used them to gain access into secretly held worships and other forbidden activities pertaining to Christianity at the time.
Kings, Queens, Knights and Squires
Now, during the middle ages, amulets and charms gained favor of many warriors who went into battle, and men and women alike. Charms and amulets were apart of many meanings to people in the Middle Ages. They would often be work to represent a group or faction they were apart of and many others. However as the renaissance swept through the European countries and mass production of books was instated, many of the rich who could afford books lost favor to carrying charms around, but for the lesser educated, and poorer classes, it was a continued tradition.
World War II
At the end of World War II, soldiers from the European countries, the pacific islands were eager to come home. Many of them before heading back bought many little charms and trinkets made by the locals to return to loved ones. This turned out to be so big, many companies soon started to create charms and trinkets for year round use.
Hello Disco!

These near antique charms and charm bracelets had many significant values imprinted on them, from anywhere to birthdays and graduations to travel and weddings. Today and the Future
During the present time, charms, charm bracelets, amulets, necklaces, and other mentionable pieces of jewelry have something in common; they all have a valuable meaning behind every piece. Weather it be a charm bracelet for your friend, or a heart charm for your significant other, or just a charm to tell your mother or grandmother that they are the best, each and every charm has its meaning, and its the meaning behind every charm and many pieces of jewelry that make it worth more and more to that person as the days go by.
